Dear Parents and Students,

Over the last month, we implemented a strong hall transition policy at Uniondale High School. Since then, we have seen tremendous progress—more students are arriving on time, seated, and ready to learn.

While overall progress is strong, a few students are still struggling. In particular, we will be scheduling meetings with students (and their parents) who are frequently caught in hall sweeps and late to school. During these meetings, we will discuss the importance of attendance and punctuality, as well as review your child's overall attendance record and total number of sweeps.

Our only goal is to teach our students the importance of being present, prepared, and successful scholars. Your partnership and support are vital for this to take place.

Thank you,

Dr. Shawn Federico Brown

Supporting Your Student: PowerSchool & Screen Time Guidelines

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your families are having a wonderful start to the school year. As we begin the new academic year, I want to share a couple of key resources to support your child’s daily success at Uniondale High School:

Managing Screen Time: To help minimize classroom distractions, we strongly encourage families to restrict student access to social media during school hours (7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.). You can view helpful guidance on managing screen time using this resource: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/lJi9V8lPEO0

PowerSchool Student Portal: Please use the PowerSchool portal to regularly monitor your child’s attendance, tardiness, and academic progress: https://uufsd.powerschool.com/

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in creating a focused and productive learning environment for our students.

Warm regards,

Shawn F. Brown, Ph.D.

Dear Uniondale High School Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

At Uniondale High School, we deeply value our culture of family, openness, and collaboration. While we always welcome our community, our absolute top priority is maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for our students and staff.

To ensure the safety of our building at all times, we are updating and strictly enforcing our visitor and building access procedures, effective immediately. Please carefully review the following expectations:

1. Requesting Records & Official Documentation (Diplomas, Transcripts, etc.)
- Advance Notice Required: Anyone requiring official documentation must submit a request and schedule an appointment at least 48 hours in advance.
- Digital Delivery First: Whenever possible, official documents will be issued electronically via email or mailed directly to the requesting institution/location.
- Doorside Pickup Only: If a hard copy of a document is required, it must be requested in advance. Once prepared, the individual may pick up the document at the Main Entrance doors. Visitors will not be granted entry into the facility to retrieve paperwork or documents.

2. Personal Deliveries & Food Drop-Offs
- Student Responsibility: If a parent or guardian needs to drop off food or personal items for a student, the drop-off time must be synchronized directly with the student prior to arrival.
- Front Door Hand-off: Deliveries must be handed directly to the student at the front entrance at the agreed-upon time.
- Staff Exemption: Uniondale High School staff will not take responsibility for holding, storing, or managing personal deliveries or food drop-offs.

3. General Visitor Expectations
- No unscheduled entry into the school building will be permitted for any reason.
- All visitors with scheduled appointments must check in at the main security desk upon arrival.

We appreciate your full cooperation in upholding these standards so that our focus remains squarely on student safety and academic success.

If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the main office.

Warm regards,

Dear Parents,

We had an amazing start to the new school year! Many of our students returned mature, rejuvenated, and ready to excel, and our teachers are fully energized and dedicated to delivering an exceptional learning experience every single day.

I am incredibly excited about the huge strides our students will make this year! Together, we are setting high expectations to expand opportunities for every child—whether that means increasing enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) and college-credit courses, opening pathways for early graduation, or maximizing opportunities for academic scholarships. With your partnership, the possibilities for student growth are truly endless!

Please take note of a few brief operational updates:

Early Arrival: Morning security screening can occasionally create delays. To ensure a smooth, stress-free start to the day, we encourage students to arrive early—ideally by 7:00 AM—giving them plenty of time to enter the building before classes begin.

Dress Code Policy: Please help us maintain a focused learning environment by ensuring your child adheres to our standard dress code (such as polos, khakis, and comfortable, appropriate attire). How our students dress reflects our shared community values and helps keep the spotlight right where it belongs—on learning.

Student Schedules: We appreciate your patience as we work through the initial scheduling adjustments. Our team is actively addressing these updates, and we are working diligently to finalize all corrected schedules as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continued partnership, energy, and support. We are looking forward to a remarkable year of growth, achievement, and success!
