Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well.
This letter addresses the lifting of the ban on McDonald's for our students. Although the restriction is no longer in place, I strongly advise your children to avoid the McDonald's location near Uniondale High School between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
Student safety is always my paramount concern. My experience as a school leader for over 16 years has unfortunately included witnessing the potential for violence near such off-campus gathering spots. Tragically, I experienced the devastating loss of former students due to a fight at a McDonald's adjacent to the school. Due to my experiences, I am deeply passionate about student safety at all times.
Here at Uniondale High School, creating a safe learning environment that supports both academic and personal growth remains my top priority. Although the formal ban has been lifted, the period immediately following dismissal, between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, has historically presented the most significant risk for potential incidents.
Please be aware that the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) will continue to maintain a presence at McDonald's and other locations in Uniondale, and they are prepared to take action against any criminal activity that may occur.
We appreciate your partnership in ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students. Please reinforce with your children the importance of making wise choices, avoiding crowded areas, and prioritizing their safety as they leave school grounds.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shawn F. Brown

Enhanced Supervision and Expectations Regarding McDonald's
Dear Families,
I hope this email finds you well.
We have recently been informed of incidents involving students traveling to McDonald's where fights have occurred. To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, we are taking proactive steps to address this issue.
Therefore, please be aware that administration and other staff members will be present at McDonald's during dismissal hours. Any student found at McDonald's between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. will face disciplinary action in accordance with school policy.
These consequences can include ineligibility to participate in sports activities, prom, school trips, the graduation ceremony, and other school-related events.
We appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing these expectations with your children. Our priority is to maintain a safe and positive environment for all members of our school community.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brown

Dear Seniors,
I hope you are well. As graduation nears, I want to ensure all students graduate on time. I will meet with students individually. If you're missing credits or Regents, I'll schedule a meeting with you and your parents to create a graduation plan. Remember, off-track students must attend Regents prep and tutoring. Failure to attend support and meetings can prevent participation in senior activities, sports, prom, trips, etc. We believe in your potential and want your success. I look forward to our meeting.
Thank you,
Shawn F. Brown, Ph.D.
