Dear Parents and Students,

Over the last month, we implemented a strong hall transition policy at Uniondale High School. Since then, we have seen tremendous progress—more students are arriving on time, seated, and ready to learn.

While overall progress is strong, a few students are still struggling. In particular, we will be scheduling meetings with students (and their parents) who are frequently caught in hall sweeps and late to school. During these meetings, we will discuss the importance of attendance and punctuality, as well as review your child's overall attendance record and total number of sweeps.

Our only goal is to teach our students the importance of being present, prepared, and successful scholars. Your partnership and support are vital for this to take place.

We had an amazing start to the new school year! Many of our students returned mature, rejuvenated, and ready to excel, and our teachers are fully energized and dedicated to delivering an exceptional learning experience every single day.

I am incredibly excited about the huge strides our students will make this year! Together, we are setting high expectations to expand opportunities for every child—whether that means increasing enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) and college-credit courses, opening pathways for early graduation, or maximizing opportunities for academic scholarships. With your partnership, the possibilities for student growth are truly endless!

Please take note of a few brief operational updates:

Early Arrival: Morning security screening can occasionally create delays. To ensure a smooth, stress-free start to the day, we encourage students to arrive early—ideally by 7:00 AM—giving them plenty of time to enter the building before classes begin.

Dress Code Policy: Please help us maintain a focused learning environment by ensuring your child adheres to our standard dress code (such as polos, khakis, and comfortable, appropriate attire). How our students dress reflects our shared community values and helps keep the spotlight right where it belongs—on learning.

Student Schedules: We appreciate your patience as we work through the initial scheduling adjustments. Our team is actively addressing these updates, and we are working diligently to finalize all corrected schedules as quickly as possible.

I hope you are well. Welcome back to another school year here at wonderful Uniondale High School. As we prepare for a great year of learning, I wanted to share a few key updates and recommendations for a successful year ahead:

Schedules: Student schedules are set, and most individual programs are fully finalized. While minor edits may occur, most courses are ready to go. Please log into PowerSchool regularly to ensure your student is attending classes on time daily. I suggest incorporating a weekly check-in during family time.

Clothing & Dress Code: In alignment with a growing national standard, we want to ensure our presentation reflects our pride as a school community. To help students stay focused on academics, please keep attire simple—simple colored shirts, khakis, and practical footwear are ideal. We aim to move away from clothing that is inappropriate for an academic setting and dress in a way that positively represents our culture, heritage, and community.

Cell Phone Policy: As previously stated, cell phone usage is strictly prohibited in school. If you notice your child struggling with screen time at home, we encourage you to monitor their daily usage and set firm boundaries. For parents concerned about safety during the commute, using tracking options like AirTags is a great alternative to phone use during school hours.

Parent Meetings: It takes a village to raise leaders and scholars, which is why active parent partnership is essential. Discussing attendance, behavior, and academic progress is a true team effort. New parents, please be prepared to fully engage in this process—we need all hands on deck.

Academic Focus: Our ultimate goal is for every student to graduate on time, equipped with AP and college credits, and positioned for full college scholarships. To achieve this, our scholars must remain fully locked into their academic performance. We are confident that through strong collaboration, we can help our students reach new heights together.

Dear Uniondale Families and Students,

As we work together to maintain a focused, safe, respectful, and high-achieving learning environment, I am writing to remind all students and families of our established expectations regarding student dress, personal presentation, and cell phone policies.

1. Student Dress Code & Professional Expectations
Our goal is to ensure students show up every day ready to learn and present themselves with pride.

Recommended & Appropriate Attire:

Colors & Styles: Earth tones, solid-colored shirts, collared shirts, and polos.

Pants & Skirts: Khakis, dress slacks, and appropriately sized skirts that provide proper coverage.

Prohibited Items & Attire to Avoid:

Headwear: Bonnets, durags, hats, or head coverings of any kind are not permitted in learning spaces (unless approved for documented medical or religious accommodations).

Revealing Clothing: Midriff-exposing tops, crop tops, shirts exposing cleavage, or extremely brief garments. Underwear, stomachs, and midriffs must remain completely covered by outer clothing at all times.

Dress Code Compliance Procedure:
Students who arrive at school in violation of the dress code policy will not be permitted to attend regular classes until appropriate clothing is secured. Non-compliant students will wait in the auditorium under staff supervision until proper attire is provided by a parent or guardian.

2. Personal Electronic Devices & Yondr Pouch Policy
In accordance with District policy and state regulations prohibiting personal internet-enabled devices during the school day, cell phones and other personal devices are strictly prohibited from being out or carried on a student's person.

Storage Requirements:

Cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds must be secured inside the student’s assigned Yondr pouch and kept inside their locked locker during school hours.

Cell phones must not be kept in pockets, hoodies, bookbags, or backpacks.

Disciplinary Procedures & Progressive Consequences:
Carrying an unpouched device in a pocket or bag violates school rules and distorts our learning environment. Students found in possession of an unpouched cell phone or device will face progressive disciplinary actions.

In accordance with the District Code of Conduct, consequences for non-compliance may include, but are not limited to:

Required mandatory parent/guardian conferences.

Temporary or permanent removal from athletic teams and extracurricular activities.

Loss of privileges for major senior events, including participation in Prom, Homecoming, field trips, and the Graduation ceremony.

We appreciate your full support and partnership in reinforcing these critical standards at home. By working together, we ensure that our school community remains safe, structured, and focused on academic success.
