Uniondale High School Parent Notification: Cell Phone Policy Dear Parents/Guardians, We are writing to reiterate our school's cell phone policy. Cell phones are a valuable tool, but their misuse can disrupt the learning environment and hinder academic progress. Cell Phone Policy: Classroom Use: Cell phones are only permitted in the classroom with explicit teacher permission for educational purposes. Hallway Use: Students must not have cell phones in their hands while walking in the hallways. In-Class Use: Cell phones should be securely stored in students' bookbags during class time. Consequences of Non-Compliance: Students who repeatedly violate the cell phone policy will face disciplinary action, including parent-teacher conferences and potential device confiscation. We understand the importance of technology, but it must be used responsibly. We have observed an increasing number of incidents involving cell phone misuse, and we want to emphasize the importance of student focus and engagement. By adhering to this policy, we aim to reduce cell phone addiction and create a more conducive learning environment. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home. Please encourage your child to use their phone responsibly and prioritize their academic goals. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Dr. Shawn F. Brown Principal Uniondale High School

Superintendent’s brief - October 2024 “Each day offers a fresh chance to create meaning, purpose and joy.” Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil As our scholars are entering the second month of school they are settling into routines and creating the habits that will carry them throughout the year. It is important that we continue to foster the joy and excitement of the first day of school by maintaining a positive attitude, being prepared for school both physically and emotionally and challenging ourselves to keep going in the face of a challenge. It is the habits that we practice every day that will determine our degree of success. I encourage families to take some time and review your child’s habits and set a goal to practice one new positive school habit this month.

Dear Parents, I hope this finds you well. We have gotten off to a pretty good start, but there is still so much more work to do. Please remember to speak with your children about their attendance. We will begin home visits for chronically absent students. Please follow student drop-off rules. Do not stop in front of the school gate or make a broken U-turn on Goodriche. That is stopping traffic. Simply go through the gate to the parking lot and have your student walk one block to school. They will be fine. In addition, make sure your students are dressed appropriately. Do-rags, hoodies, and crop tops are not permitted. We want our students to focus on scholarship, not fashion. Failure to comply will lead to further disciplinary actions. Thank you, Shawn F. Brown, Ph.D.
